ABSTRACT

This study is about the apology strategy used by the main character in the
film remember me. An apology is a word a sentence that someone says when they
make a mistake. The purpose of this research is to describe the type of apology
strategy used by the characters in Remember Me. In this study, researchers used 5
types of apology strategies by Anna Trosborg in the film remember me, including
rejection, evasive strategies, indirect apologies, direct apologies, and remedial
support. The function of the apology strategy is so that people can apologize in a
way that suits the conditions that occur so that there is no misunderstanding
between the speaker and the listener. The type used in this research is descriptive
qualitative which is a method to examine the status of a group of people, an
object, a situation, a system of thought, or a group of events in the present with
the aim of making descriptions, drawings or paintings in a systematic, factual and
accurate. Researchers collect descriptive data as much as possible which will be
poured in the form of reports and descriptions, to create a systematic, accurate,
and factual picture of a fact, its nature, to the relationship between the phenomena
studied. In this study, researchers found 15 apologies used. The apology strategies
most used by the main characters in the data are Rejection (Justification), Evasive
Strategies (Minimizing), Remedial Support (Expressing concern for hearer),
Direct Apologies (Expression of regret, Offer of Apology, and), Indirect
Apologies ( Implicit acknowledgment, Explicit acknowledgment, Expression of
lack of intent, Expression of self-deficiency, and Explicit acceptance of the
blame).
